What's In A Name?

This morning I stumbled across a blog in which the author asked the question, “Where did you get the name for your blog?” She told about hers and asked others to do the same thing on theirs, so Barb, here is my answer to how The Dawg Howse name began.

Since I was pretty young, I have always signed my name with my middle initial. (Don’t ask me why, because I do not know how or why I started doing that.) My full name is Darrell Wayne Garrett, making my initials DWG. When we were kids, we would make names of peoples initials. You know, some people’s initials just are a word or name. For example, I have a niece whose name is Amber Suzanne Kelly… or ASK. My friends started calling me Dog, and later the nickname stuck, spelled dawg. When I created the Dawg Howse, it just seemed like the natural thing to stick that “W” in place of the u… and thus was born, “The Dawg Howse.”

Darrell, we have a couple of things in common--my maiden name is Garrett, and we both live in Illinois! It was nice visiting your blog...hope you'll check mine out when you get a moment.

Well Darrell, that's just the cutest name I think I've seen yet. I'm glad you gave us the thought process you went through to create it, though. My first thought was, "Surely his wife isn't mad at him ALL the time!" Thank you for participating in this. I had no idea it would be this much fun.

And happy birthday to your blog. That photo of the dog with the balloons is hilarious. Looks like he's just having a grand old time!

Man, now I have to change my middle name knowing that I share it with the Dawg... I guess it must be nice for you to share something in common with me!
