Do You Want To Be Blessed?

Proverbs 28: 13 - 14 in the Amplified Bible says:
"He who covers his transgressions will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes his sins will obtain mercy. Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is the man who reverently and worshipfully fears (the Lord) at all times (regardless of circumstances), but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity."

As I was reading this today, I thought of how sly we often think we are as we try to cover up or hide our sin. As a pastor, it is obvious that people try to hide their sin from me, and in fact, I often have people say something like, "Pastor, I don't want you to be disappointed with me."
Isn't it odd that people would be afraid of what the pastor thinks, when the reality is, the only one we should be seeking to please is our God? I mean, what does it accomplish if someone successfully hides sinful practices from the pastor... or anyone else for that matter? I mean, God knows! We can be certain of that fact... HE KNOWS!
The amazing thing is that the Word tells us over and over again that God will forgive us if we just confess our sins and repent. And as this passage tells us, if we try to cover them, we will not be successful, and in fact, calamity will overtake us. So, why try to hide our sin? The only one deceived is ourselves.

Want to be blessed... to be happy, to be a person to be envied?

Confess your sin and repent (forsake) your sin. That is a key, by the way. It is not enough to confess. You have got to stop doing it!
