As parents, we have dreams and aspirations for our children, yet a wise and caring parent will not dictate the direction or future for their child. We are there to give advice, encourage, correct and steer in the right direction when needed, but for the most part, our job as a parent is to equip and train and then let them soar. I'm reminded that when my baby girl was leaving for college, I wrote her a letter telling her how proud and amazed I was at her and then I told her I knew she would do great, and now it was her turn to soar. I wrote, "Now go out and wow the world." Tonight I was laying in bed thinking of all of my many blessings and of course, my kids and grandbaby came to mind, and that set my mind off on this track. I wondered, "How does God see me?" How does he see us? Does he look at us as we look at our children with such hopes and aspirations like we do our kids? I see a parallel in that he does not force his will on us either. He leads and guides, desires to talk with us and according to the Word of God, He has a plan for us. BUT, he will not force his will on us. We make own choices and decisions. I imagine he is sometimes looking at me and saying, "Come on Darrell, go this way... do this... and his heart breaks when I go the wrong way and do the wrong thing. Still, He loves me. And He loves you! I really believe that God has written us a letter... and that letter says the same thing I told Ashley... "You can do this! Now go out and wow the world!"
Allow me to ask you a question... are you doing what you do for yourself? For your pleasure? Or are you doing it to glorify God? The Bible tells us that whatever we do, we should do it as unto the Lord. When you are doing it all for his glory, self dies... and that changes everything! We no longer want to "wow the world" to show them how cool or great we are... We do it to glorify Christ.
God has given us a mission... to go out and wow the world for the glory of God as we live and breathe Christ before them.
