Reality TV has Distorted Our Reality

Talking with people about the current Presidential elections, whether in person or on Facebook has become an unbelievable source of frustration for me. Not because the candidate I support is not winning (OK... maybe a little) but more so because of the mindset of the voters. I've been stunned to hear people say things like, "I know he's lying, but they all are going to lye, so... so what?"  I heard a poll on the radio earlier in the week that said something like 68% of the people who support Trump say their number one reason for doing so is because they are "mad as Hell" at the establishment.  One friend told me that he supports Trump because he knows how to "piss people off."  Really? You are going to put a man into the office of the President of the United States because you're mad, or because he can make others mad?  What are people thinking? Are we that far gone in this society? Sadly... the answer is yes.

As I've thought about this over the past few days, I've come to realize that too many (not all, but certainly many) voters, this is like another "reality TV show."  It's like they're watching Maury or Springer or The Apprentice and they don't realize that this is not fun and games... this has REAL consequences. And those consequences are far reaching.  You cast your vote for someone on American Idol and they lose and you're disappointed for a few minutes, then you go on to the next show. But this is real life. Whoever wins this election is going to sit in the office of the White House, arguably the most powerful position in the world! And America is acting like it's another TV show and are putting no thought of the future into their actions and how this is going to affect our lives for the next 4 years and beyond. This is really scary. I never thought I'd see the day where this Nation teetered on the edge of a cliff and the masses were cheering for it to fall off. But folks... we are there!
This could very well be America's last hurrah.
