Remembering A Conversation in 1998

In 1998 I sat in the back yard of a home in Berlin, Germany having coffee and cake with a family. Remember this was only about 9 years after the Berlin Wall had come down, and I was sitting on the former East Berlin side. I was talking to people who had lived in socialism. They shared what it was like to lose your freedoms and then to regain them. One elderly man began speaking about what it was like in Germany when Adolf Hitler rose to power. He spoke about how the people loved him, how charismatic he  was and about how he spoke of hope to a nation that had been pretty much in ruin since WWI. He spoke about how Hitler promised to return Germany to greatness and promised a car for every German family. (Thus was born Volkswagon... "the people's car." He built factories and roads. The man said that the people loved him so much that they began to follow him blindly, yielded their guns... and their lives to him, and they did not even realize they were following a mad man. Then the man said something I will never forget. He said, "American's are stupid. You are giving up your freedoms more and more, to the point that we now have more freedom than you." He told me, "Remember I told you this; If America does not awaken, they will embrace socialism and follow the path that Deutschland has traveled." 

As I look back at the past 14 years, I am sickened as I am forced to admit that the prophetic words of the gentleman have been unfolding right before my eyes. And the tragic event that took place in Connecticut is about to cause us to take a giant leap forward toward the leap into Socialism and Communism as we are about to see a full force effort to wrestle guns away from the citizens of America. Sadly, Americans have fogoten the past... or they think that we somehow are above it all and we can do it differently. But as the old saying goes, "those who forget history are condemned to repeat it." I've been deeply saddened today as I have read over and over where people have written or said that we must enact gun control because of these kids that were killed. Just like everyone else, I am grieved deeply for those children, but I react differently. I say we must allow concealed carry to stop or curb this sort of bizarre stuff from repeating itself. But I believe we will see the full court press begin, trying to remove guns from our society. Time will tell, and I hope I'm wrong. But I doubt it sincerely.

Let me share a brief history on gun control. Americans need to be reminded of the history of gun control. Maybe if enough people can remember we won't have to repeat a tragic pattern.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. 

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

56 million defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control. 

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. No one believes that it could happen here in America. Do you really think that anyone thought it would happen in any of the above mentioned countries?
